Sarah Geronimo’s viral “Tala” enters U.S. World Digital Billboard Charts

MANILA — Four years since its original release, “Tala” is shining brighter as it entered an international chart tallied by Billboard on Friday.

The chart ranks the top downloaded songs for the week based on sales data compiled by Nielsen Music.

Other songs that made it into the Billboard are: “Winter Flower” by singer-songwriter Younha featuring RM (No. 1), “Answer” by boy band Ateez (No. 6), “Boy, Girl” by girl group Loona, (No. 14), “Horizon” by Ateez (No. 18), and “My Love” by Baekhyun (No. 20).

The song went viral on the internet last December with Sarah Geronimo’s dance routine becoming a viral dance challenge that had people posting videos of their versions of the original dance. Sarah’s music video had her dancing in a tattooed bodysuit alongside dance group G-force performing a tricky choreography by Georcelle Dapat-Sy.

Celebrities like Maine Mendoza and K-pop’s Momoland accepted the Tala dance challenge. Philippine TV’s ASAP 25th Anniversary show featured Sarah Geronimo leading a Grand Tala Day where she danced with viral Tala dancers.

Last month, Tala was the first song of the ‘Popstar Royalty’ to land on Spotify’s Global Viral 50, a playlist of the world’s hottest, most popular and most shared tracks.
